Who is B.F. Dillingham, the name behind the room at the Manoa Valley Inn?

The spacious and well appointed Dillingham room is located on the third floor of the Mānoa Valley Inn. The room is named in honor of Benjamin Franklin Dillingham, a noted business leader. In late 19th century Hawai‘i,
Dillingham made his fortune as the founder of the O‘ahu Railway and Land Company. He included King David Kalākaua and Queen Lili‘uokalani among his friends.
Dillingham’s son, Walter, built a beautiful mansion, La Pietra, on the slopes of Diamond Head in 1919. For forty years, Walter and his wife Louise hosted many notable visitors to Hawai‘i including President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Walt Disney.
The Dillinghams – father and son – are symbols of a time when Hawai‘i had a certain charm all its own. The Mānoa Valley Inn harks back to that bygone time as a gracious and historic home with appointments and décor that echo an elegant era
